
A recent cohort study sheds light on the optimal surgical treatment for children with intermittent exotropia (IXT). The study, encompassing 7482 children under 18 who underwent horizontal eye muscle strabismus surgery between 2013 and 2017, compares the 5-year reoperation rates for two techniques: bilateral lateral rectus recession (BLR) and unilateral lateral rectus recession with medial rectus resection (RR). Results indicate that children treated with RR are less likely to require reoperation within five years, highlighting a potential shift in surgical approach for improved outcomes.
