A comprehensive study explores the impact of pre-pregnancy lifestyle on preventing Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). While randomized control trials (RCTs) exhibit a non-significant reduction in GDM risk with lifestyle intervention, cohort studies reveal significant benefits. Women engaging in pre-pregnancy physical activity, adopting low carbohydrate/low sugar diets, and maintaining higher diet quality scores demonstrate a 29%, 14%, and 28% lower likelihood of developing GDM, respectively. The study underscores the potential of tailored lifestyle interventions to mitigate GDM risk, urging further studies and personalized approaches for enhanced effectiveness.
