A recent study investigated the association between predicted body composition parameters and the risk of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM, aiming to address the limitations of traditional obesity markers. The study analyzed data from 20,944 participants and found significant correlations between predicted fat mass, lean mass, and percent fat with T2DM onset, particularly in males. Waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) and predicted percent fat exhibited superior predictive abilities compared to conventional obesity indicators. These findings highlight the importance of considering body composition in assessing T2DM risk.
