Study Reveals Significant Connection Between Weight-Adjusted-Waist Index (WWI) and Gallstones

A recent cross-sectional study utilized the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017–2020 data to explore the relationship between the weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) and gallstones. Involving 8004 participants aged 20 and above, 833 reported gallstones. Results revealed a positive association between higher WWI tertiles and increased gallstones prevalence. Adjusted models indicated a 71% higher gallstones risk in the highest WWI tertile compared to the lowest. A nonlinear correlation was observed, with a WWI inflection point of 12.7. While highlighting the link, the study emphasizes the need for further prospective validation.
