Study Reveals Varied Preterm Birth Rates Among Maternal Racial and Ethnic Groups in the US

A nationwide cross-sectional study analyzing birth records from 2014 to 2019 found that preterm birth rates varied significantly among maternal racial and ethnic groups. The study, involving 8,590,988 nulliparous individuals aged 15 to 44, discovered that non–US-born individuals generally had lower preterm birth rates compared to their US-born counterparts. However, substantial heterogeneity existed, notably among disaggregated Asian and Hispanic subgroups. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions addressing the unique challenges faced by different demographic groups to reduce preterm birth-related morbidity and mortality.
