Study Shows Compressive Cryotherapy Accelerates Recovery Post-Total Knee Arthroplasty

A study comparing rehabilitation methods post-total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has unveiled promising results. Forty patients were divided into Standard Cryotherapy (SC) and Compressive Cryotherapy (CC). While both groups showed significant improvements in knee range of motion (ROM), trophic changes, pain, and function after 21 days, the CC group demonstrated additional benefits. Specifically, CC led to faster improvements in knee flexion ROM, reduced swelling, and decreased pain during activity compared to SC. These findings suggest that adding dynamic compression to cryotherapy protocols could enhance post-TKA rehabilitation outcomes.
