Study Shows Feasibility and Safety of Achieving Higher Heart Failure Guideline-Directed Medication Therapy Doses in ICU

A post hoc analysis of the STRONG-HF randomized clinical trial assessed the impact of achieving higher doses of heart failure (HF) guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) in high-intensity care patients. The study from May 2018 to September 2022 included 515 patients with acute HF. Patients achieving higher GDMT doses within two weeks showed reduced 180-day HF readmission or death (adjusted hazard ratio 0.89) and improved quality of life at 90 days. The findings suggest that attaining optimal GDMT doses in high-intensity care is both feasible and safe.
