Study Shows Optimal Polidocanol Retention Dose for Treating Benign Thyroid Nodules

A recent retrospective study examined the impact of ultrasound-guided polidocanol chemical ablation on benign cystic-solid thyroid nodules. Of the 78 patients studied, varying retention doses were administered, with follow-ups conducted at regular intervals postoperatively. Findings revealed significantly lower operation time and bleeding volume for ablation recipients compared to those undergoing open surgery. The 30% retention dose demonstrated the highest nodule shrinkage rate, indicating optimal efficacy. Moreover, patients with inadequate response to chemical ablation alone may benefit from combined thermal ablation. The study underscores the safety and efficacy of polidocanol chemical ablation, suggesting retention doses between 20% and 30% yield optimal results.
