Study Shows Photobiomodulation as a Promising Therapy for Erosive Oral Lichen Planus

A recent study compared the efficacy of photobiomodulation versus topical 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide in treating erosive oral lichen planus. In this randomized controlled clinical trial with 44 patients, the control group received triamcinolone acetonide three times daily for 4 weeks, while the photobiomodulation group received laser therapy twice weekly for 5 weeks. Both groups showed significant improvement in pain, clinical scores, and salivary malondialdehyde levels, suggesting photobiomodulation as a promising treatment with fewer side effects. The findings propose salivary malondialdehyde levels as a potential biomarker for disease severity and treatment response.
