A study assessed the impact of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) on proteinuria and oxidative stress in type 2 diabetes patients. The study categorized 68 participants based on urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) and treated with SGLT2i for 12 weeks. Results revealed a reduction in proteinuria and oxidative stress markers, particularly in those with microalbuminuria and macroalbuminuria. The findings suggest SGLT2i may mitigate proteinuria via inhibiting renal oxidative stress without RAAS activation or involvement of the AGEs pathway.
