Surging bird flu cases may increase human infection risk: WHO

The WHO has issued a warning regarding the recent increase in bird flu outbreaks among mammals. The organization expressed concerns that the avian influenza virus could adapt to infect humans more easily due to its detection among mammals, which are biologically closer to humans than birds. Additionally, some mammals may serve as mixing vessels for influenza viruses, potentially leading to the emergence of more harmful viruses for animals and humans. Several countries across three continents have reported outbreaks in mammals caused by influenza A(H5) viruses, and there may be more undiscovered cases.
