Synthesis and Characterization of TEGDMA-DHEPT Microcapsules with Self-Healing Potential for Dental Resin Composites

Synthesis and Characterization of TEGDMA-DHEPT Microcapsules with Self-Healing Potential for Dental Resin Composites

In this study, TEGDMA-DHEPT microcapsules were synthesized and characterized for quality in a laboratory setting. The process involved in situ polymerization of PUF shells and subsequent characterization included size analysis, optical and SEM microscopy, and FT-IR spectrometry. Results indicated an average diameter of 120 ± 45 μm for the microcapsules, with SEM imaging revealing a smooth outer surface and PUF nanoparticle deposits. FT-IR spectra demonstrated a 60.3% degree of conversion when microcapsules were crushed with a BPO catalyst. The findings suggest potential applications in dental resin composites with self-healing properties to be explored in future research.
