Systematic Review Insights On The Impact of Group-Based Parent-Only Interventions on Childhood Weight Management and the Influencing Factors

A recent comprehensive review encompassing 15 selected studies delves into the efficacy of parent-only interventions in combating childhood obesity. The study examined various child health-related outcomes and revealed that these interventions impact children's weight status positively and influence health behaviors and self-esteem. While outcomes were inconsistent, parent-only programs proved comparable to parent-child interventions, outperforming waiting list controls. Factors affecting success included session attendance, child's age, baseline weight, socioeconomic status, and home food environment modifications. Despite promising results, caution is warranted due to the studies' low methodological quality and high non-completion rates.
