Systemic therapy timing and use in patients with advanced melanoma at the end of life

This study, focusing on advanced melanoma patients (July 2017–June 2020) from the Netherlands Cancer Registry who died before July 2020, analyzed systemic therapy timing and usage. Among 1097 patients, 68% received systemic therapy, with 25% initiating a new therapy within 90 days before death. Factors affecting therapy odds included female sex, elevated LDH, BRAF mutation, and poor performance status. The study underscores the need for shared decision-making in considering benefits and drawbacks, especially for those starting systemic therapy close to death.
