A recent randomized controlled study investigated the effectiveness of Telehealth Aural Rehabilitation (TeleAR) for adult cochlear implant (CI) users. The study involved a multi-site clinical trial where participants were randomly assigned to either an AR treatment or control group. The AR protocol included auditory training, counseling, and communication strategies, while the control group engaged in cognitive stimulation activities. Both groups underwent six weekly 90-minute remote sessions. The results showed significant improvements in speech recognition and psychosocial outcomes for the AR group compared to the control group. This study suggests that TeleAR can enhance outcomes for adult CI users by leveraging neuroplasticity, even for those over three months post-activation.
