A study reveals concerns about treatment for nasal obstruction caused by nasal valve collapse (NVC). The treatment involves using a radiofrequency (RF) device to heat nasal cartilage. The study found that this device can generate high temperatures, with peak readings of 49.57°C and 42.21°C in different thicknesses of cartilage. Computational modeling indicates potential damage to cartilage cells extending up to 1.4mm below the treated surface, suggesting a risk of thermal injury. The study suggests the need for further research to refine the treatment process and reduce the risk of harm.
