This study aimed to investigate the occurrence and risk factors for unfavorable urodynamic parameters in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) during the first year after the injury. The study found that the majority of patients had at least one unfavorable urodynamic parameter, which was often identified within the first 1-3 months after the injury. Risk factors for specific parameters were also identified, such as thoracic SCI being associated with an increased risk of detrusor overactivity combined with detrusor sphincter dyssynergia (DO-DSD), and male gender, cervical SCI, and lower AIS grade being associated with an increased risk of maximum storage detrusor pressure ≥40 cmH2O. The study concludes that early diagnosis and treatment of unfavorable urodynamic parameters can be facilitated by conducting the first urodynamic investigation within 3 months after SCI, and considering sex and SCI characteristics when scheduling further investigations and individualized management strategies for patients with SCI.
