The association between blood groups, Rhesus factors, body mass index and obesity among pregnant women

A recent study at Gadarif Maternity Hospital in eastern Sudan sought to address the ambiguity surrounding the link between blood groups and obesity, particularly during pregnancy. The cross-sectional study, spanning April to September 2022, involved 833 pregnant women. Results indicated that blood group O was associated with obesity and higher BMI, while Rhesus factors showed no such correlation. Urban residency and age were identified as factors linked to overweight and obesity. The findings contribute valuable insights into the nuanced relationship between blood groups, BMI, and pregnancy-related obesity.
