This study assessed the link between red cell distribution width (RDW) and all-cause mortality in elderly hip fracture patients. Over 2587 patients were studied, and a linear relationship between RDW and mortality was found. Adjusted for factors, higher RDW correlated with increased mortality risk by 3% per 1 fL increase. The study concludes that RDW might serve as a predictor for mortality risk in elderly hip fracture patients.
