The bone shielding versus dual‐zone concept in treating thin‐walled fresh extraction sockets with immediate implant placement

A recent clinical trial compared the outcomes of two different techniques for immediate implant placement in patients with thin-walled sockets in the esthetic zone. The study involved patients with nonrestorable maxillary teeth who received implants using the bone shielding concept, and the other group received implants using the dual-zone (DZ) technique. After one year, the bone shielding group demonstrated better bucco-palatal ridge thickness stability and less ridge shrinkage than the DZ group. The bone shielding concept showed more bone gain at certain levels. This study suggests that the bone shielding concept may be a promising approach for preserving ridge dimensions in esthetic zone implants.
