The efficacy and safety of GLP-1 receptor agonists in youth with type 2 diabetes: a meta-analysis

A new meta-analysis suggests that glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) show promising efficacy in treating pediatric type 2 diabetes. The study, which analyzed data from five trials involving 415 children and adolescents, found that GLP-1 RAs significantly reduced HbA1c levels by 1.01%, fasting blood glucose by 1.88 mmol/L, and body weight by 1.6 kg on average. However, there were no significant changes in blood pressure. Despite an increased incidence of gastrointestinal side effects, withdrawal rates from the studies were low. These findings highlight the potential benefits of GLP-1 RAs for children with type 2 diabetes, though careful monitoring of side effects is recommended.
