The impact of time from injury to surgery on the risk of neuropathic pain after traumatic spinal cord injury

A study examined 320 patients with traumatic spinal cord injuries (SCI), revealing that 48.4% experienced neuropathic pain (NeP). The analysis identified age, Injury Severity Score, and neurological level of damage as independent NeP risk factors. Early surgical intervention proved beneficial, particularly for AIS B, C, and D patients. The study emphasizes the importance of timely surgeries in preventing NeP, urging prospective research for evidence-based surgical guidelines in managing traumatic SCI.
