The long-term effects of blood urea nitrogen levels on cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality in diabetes

A new prospective study sheds light on the link between blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels and mortality in diabetic patients. With a sizable sample of participants, the research found that higher BUN levels correlated with increased risks of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality. Notably, the association was nonlinear, with an inflection point around 5 mmol/L. Even after adjusting for various factors, the trend persisted, indicating the potential significance of BUN monitoring in diabetic care. These findings underscore the need for further investigation into the long-term implications of BUN levels in diabetes management.
