A study comparing PHMB 0.02% + propamidine to PHMB 0.08% for Acanthamoeba keratitis treatment found that both therapies are highly effective. Among 127 participants, PHMB 0.02% + propamidine and PHMB 0.08% demonstrated medical cure rates of 86.6% and 86.7%, respectively, meeting noninferiority criteria. Secondary outcomes, including visual acuity and treatment failure rates, were comparable. The study suggests that PHMB 0.08% monotherapy may be as effective as the widely used PHMB 0.02% + propamidine dual therapy for Acanthamoeba keratitis treatment.
