The role of PSMA PET/CT to predict upgrading in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy for ISUP grade group 1 prostate cancer

A recent study examined the value of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in predicting pathological upgrading for patients with initial ISUP grade group 1 prostate cancer (PCa) at biopsy. The study identified high prostatic PSMA uptake as a strong predictor of pathological upgrading, with a 93.3% rate of upgrading in patients with an SUVmax ≥ 5.6. These findings emphasize the importance of considering PSMA PET/CT alongside existing imaging and biopsy data when deciding on treatment for GG1 PCa patients.
