The roles of stress‐induced premature senescence and Akt/FoxO1 signaling in periapical lesions

This study investigated the role of oxidative stress-induced senescence in apical periodontitis and its molecular mechanisms in periapical lesions. Immunohistochemical analysis of radicular cysts and periapical granulomas revealed higher expression of Senescence-associated factor PTRF and Akt/FoxO1 signaling in radicular cysts. In vitro experiments using human periodontal ligament cells exposed to H2O2-induced oxidative stress demonstrated significant senescence induction. The PI3K inhibitor LY294002 attenuated senescence and apoptosis markers and affected Akt/FoxO1 signaling, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target for cellular senescence in apical lesions.
