The Roles of Venopulmonary Arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

This comprehensive review delves into studies on acute respiratory distress syndrome, right ventricular dysfunction post-left ventricular assist device placement, bridge to lung transplantation, and pulmonary embolism. Although small, single-centre, and retrospective, these studies reveal Venopulmonary Arterial ECMO (V-PA ECMO) as a promising extracorporeal support for patients with right ventricular dysfunction. However, definitive conclusions await further research, urging future investigations to pinpoint optimal timing and patient populations for V-PA ECMO application.
