Acne vulgaris is a common skin condition affecting around 9.4% of the global population. Acne vulgaris usually starts at puberty and varies in severity from a few spots on the face, neck, back and chest, which most adolescents will have at some time, to a more significant problem that may cause scarring and have an impact on self‐confidence. The author found that the burden was most pronounced in Western Europe and high-income countries in Asia Pacific and East Asia. In this study, the authors from China used data from 204 countries included in the Global Burden of Disease 2019 project. The study used the data to make comparisons between countries over time and to rank the overall burden on the population caused by acne vulgaris. To reduce the burden of acne vulgaris, targeted education, treatment, monitoring and psychosocial support are needed.
