A recent multicenter study investigated the potential of thiamine (vitamin B1) to mitigate kidney injury in patients with septic shock. The Thiamine for Renal Protection in Septic Shock (TRPSS) trial, a randomized, placebo-controlled study involving 88 patients, found no significant difference in creatinine levels between thiamine and placebo groups at 72 hours after enrollment. While thiamine recipients showed more ICU-free days, no disparities in kidney failure, acute kidney injury, or mortality were observed. This study contributes to the ongoing discourse on thiamine's role in septic kidney injury management.
