Three Morphological Risk Factors for Predicting Isolated Meniscal Bucket-handle Tear

The study examined whether morphometric knee variables can predict isolated meniscal bucket-handle tears and identify associated risk factors. Among 146 participants, including 73 with tears and 73 controls, magnetic resonance imaging revealed specific measurements related to the distal femur, proximal tibia, and cruciate ligaments. Results indicated larger cruciate ligament tensity, higher medial femoral condylar height, and smaller lateral meniscal bone angle in patients with tears compared to controls. Logistic regression analysis confirmed these variables as predictors, particularly in differentiating medial bucket-handle tears. The study concludes that specific morphometric factors like CLT, MFCH, and LMBA could serve as risk indicators for meniscal bucket-handle tears.
