Tirzepatide, a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide and GLP-1 receptor agonist, underwent a phase 3 trial for weight control in obese type 2 diabetes patients. The subjects were randomly assigned 938 participants to 10mg/15mg tirzepatide or placebo. Tirzepatide led to -12.8% (10 mg) and -14.7% (15 mg) body weight reduction vs -3.2% placebo, with more achieving ≥5% loss (79-83% vs 32%). Gastrointestinal-related effects observed, mostly mild. Findings indicate tirzepatide's effectiveness and safety for weight management. Tirzepatide demonstrated significant weight reduction and improved weight management safety in obese type 2 diabetes patients, suggesting its potential as a valuable treatment option.
