A study investigated the effectiveness and safety of intravenous tranexamic acid (TXA) administration in patients with fresh foot and ankle fractures. One hundred fifty patients were randomly assigned to placebo, low-dose, medium-dose, high-dose, or ultrahigh-dose TXA groups. TXA significantly reduced preoperative hidden blood loss, surgical blood loss, and postoperative haemoglobin changes compared to the placebo. Overdose groups showed more significant effects than standard-dose groups. TXA also decreased wound complications, with no increase in profound vein thrombosis incidence. This study suggests early TXA administration effectively reduces blood loss and improves safety outcomes in foot and ankle fracture patients, with higher doses demonstrating enhanced efficacy.
