This study compared the clinical outcomes of patients with secondary mitral regurgitation (MR) who underwent transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) versus those who received guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) alone. The study included 97 patient pairs after adjusting for baseline differences using propensity score matching. The results showed that patients who underwent TMVR had significantly lower levels of residual MR at 1 and 2 years compared to those receiving GDMT alone. The TMVR group also had a lower rate of heart failure hospitalization, improved functional status, and similar mortality compared to the GDMT group. These findings suggest that TMVR may be a beneficial treatment option for patients with secondary MR.
