Translation of AI into oncology clinical practice

Artificial intelligence (AI) captivates the medical world with its transformative potential, particularly in oncology. AI and machine learning (ML) promise to overcome barriers in cancer research and treatment. These technologies can automate workflows, personalize patient care, and address healthcare disparities. AI/ML applications are emerging in cancer screening, early detection, diagnosis, treatment prediction, prognosis, and drug discovery. However, few validated AI/ML models are approved for clinical use. This review explores challenges in AI/ML clinical translation, examining radiology, radiation oncology, immunotherapy, and drug discovery cases. The study stresses the need for multidisciplinary collaboration, domain expertise, model transparency, and quality assurance to ensure safer and more effective AI/ML implementations in oncology.
