TRPM2 Drives Osteoclast Activation in Oxidative Periodontitis Microenvironment

The study identified TRPM2 as a key oxidative stress sensor contributing to osteoclast differentiation and alveolar bone loss in periodontitis. Data from patients, animal models, and in vitro assays show ROS-triggered TRPM2 activation promotes bone resorption via the Ca²⁺/NFATc1 pathway. TRPM2 inhibition markedly alleviated bone degradation, highlighting it as a promising therapeutic target for oxidative stress–induced periodontal bone loss.
