A recent study evaluated the relationship between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) in patients at high risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD). Involving 1,046 patients scheduled for implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation at the Chinese National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, the study found that 32.7% experienced VAs during an average follow-up of 36.1 months. An increased TyG index was significantly correlated with both VAs (hazard ratio [HR] 2.95) and major cardiovascular events (HR 2.84). Patients in the highest TyG index tertile had a fourfold increased risk of VAs compared to those in the lowest tertile (HR 4.08). These findings suggest that the TyG index may serve as a valuable marker for predicting VAs and major cardiovascular outcomes in high-risk SCD patients.
