Ultra-Processed Foods Increase Diabetes Risk in US Adults

A study of 13,172 participants from the ARIC cohort investigated the link between ultra-processed food consumption and diabetes risk. Over 21 years, a higher intake of ultra-processed foods significantly increased diabetes risk. The highest quartile of consumption showed a 13% higher diabetes risk compared to the lowest quartile. Specific groups like sugary beverages, ultra-processed meats, and snacks posed even greater risks, suggesting dietary interventions could help prevent diabetes.
