
This study evaluated whether ultrasonography is as effective as radiography for diagnosing forearm fractures in children and adolescents and determining subsequent arm function. The study recruited participants aged 5 to 15 years with a distal forearm injury without visible deformity. The primary outcome was the physical function of the affected arm at 4 weeks, assessed using the Pediatric Upper Extremity Short Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) score. The study found that ultrasonography was non-inferior to radiography regarding arm function at 4 weeks, with no clinically missed fractures or significant differences in adverse events between the groups.
