The study investigated the relationship between the glycation gap (GGap) and mortality in US adults. GGap is the difference between HbA1c and other estimates of blood glucose. The study used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and found a U-shaped association between GGap and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, with significant positive or negative GGap values associated with increased mortality risk. The study suggests this association may be due to glycemic variability and fructosamine-3-kinase activity.
