A study of 129,096 pregnant women found that preconception underweight marginally increased the risk of offspring congenital heart disease (CHD). The incidence of CHD was highest in underweight women (0.68%) compared to normal weight (0.65%), overweight (0.64%), and obese (0.76%) groups. The risk was notably higher in women under 24 years with a low preconception BMI. These findings underscore the importance of adequate weight management before pregnancy to reduce CHD risk in young women.
