Utility of Extended High‐Frequency Audiograms in Clinical Practice

The study found that patients with audiologic symptoms and normal standard audiograms may still experience hearing loss at extended high frequencies (EHF) beyond 8 kHz. The study analyzed data from 50 patients who underwent EHF audiometry. Of the 40 patients with audiologic symptoms and normal audiograms up to 8 kHz, 62.5% had hearing loss in the higher frequencies. Those with EHF hearing loss were more likely to report subjective hearing difficulties, and age positively correlated with the degree of EHF hearing loss.
