Utilizing a Functional Lumen Imaging Probe for Evaluation of the Pediatric Airway, A Pilot Study

Researchers conducted a study to assess the feasibility of using the endoluminal functional lumen imaging probe (EndoFLIP) for evaluating the pediatric airway. They created 3D-printed models of the pediatric airway with and without simulated stenosis and made measurements using EndoFLIP. The results showed that the measurements of the minimum cross-sectional area (MCSA) and length of stenosis made by the observers were highly concordant with the model dimensions. The measurements demonstrated high precision and interrater reliability. The study concludes that the EndoFLIP system can accurately and reproducibly measure the cross-sectional area and stenotic length in pediatric airway models, offering potential advantages in assessing airway distensibility and asymmetric airway pathology.
