Severe alcoholic hepatitis is a dangerous complication in alcohol-dependent patients. Frequent infections and an inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) complicate diagnosis due to cytokine release. This study found elevated levels of IL-6 and IL-10 in patients with SIRS, while IL-4, IL-6, IFNγ, TNFα, and IL-17 correlated with liver function, measured by Model for End-stage Liver Disease (MELD)-Sodium. IL-6 levels were associated with infections, aiding diagnosis with sensitivity and specificity values at elevated concentrations.
