Variation in executive function relates to BMI increase in youth

This study investigates the relationship between adolescents' executive function (EF), cognition, and weight gain. Results indicate that differences in EF and understanding, particularly impulsivity, memory, learning, and processing speed, precede increases in BMI over two years. Weight gain was associated with decreased inhibitory control. The findings suggest the importance of incorporating EF programs in obesity prevention efforts.
