The study assessed visual impairment (VI) in preterm-born patients from Denmark, evaluating causes, severity, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) was the leading cause (47%), followed by cortical visual impairment (CVI) (25%). Age negatively impacted HRQoL, and combined impairments led to worse outcomes than isolated VI. The study suggests reducing cerebral damage in preterm infants may improve visual function and HRQoL in adulthood.
