
A new study delves into the connection between Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Findings reveal that DPN patients had significantly lower serum Vitamin D levels compared to non-DPN patients. VDD emerged as an independent risk factor for DPN, correlating with nerve latencies and velocities. Those with VDD displayed longer nerve latencies, indicating a potential link between VDD and DPN development. This study suggests that VDD may heighten the risk of DPN by impacting large nerve fibers.
