Wearable EEG System Enhances Vocabulary Learning Through Sleep Reactivation

The study explored the use of a wearable EEG-based closed-loop system to enhance vocabulary learning in a real-world home environment. Participants who learned Italian pseudowords had some of the words re-cued during sleep via acoustic stimulation triggered by slow waves. Results showed an 8.6% increase in translation accuracy for cued words, while uncued words saw a 4.6% decrease. Spectral analysis indicated that spindle activity was associated with successful memory recall. The study suggests that targeted memory reactivation via wearable technology can effectively support memory consolidation outside of laboratory settings.
