
The systematic review examined 14 studies on the role of higher-weight social identity in moderating the impact of weight stigma on health. Self-perceived higher-weight status exacerbated negative outcomes, while strong group identification could protect self-esteem, especially in those with low internalized bias. Results highlight identity's dual role and call for nuanced approaches to reduce stigma’s harm.
