The study compared the performance of Nasopharyngeal antigen Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs), saliva RT-PCR, and nasopharyngeal (NP) RT-PCR for detecting SARS-CoV-2 in patients with COVID-19 symptoms. The study found that RDT results allow rapid identification of COVID cases, especially those with high viral loads, and can be useful for immediate isolation of the most contagious individuals. The study also suggests that saliva PCR can replace NP swabbing in COVID-19 testing, and RDT can be a game changer in resource-constrained settings due to its low price.
