The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified a contaminated batch of common cold syrup, Cold Out, in Iraq, manufactured by Indian company Fourrts (India) Laboratories for Dabilife Pharma. The syrup contains excessive levels of contaminants diethylene and ethylene glycol, surpassing safe limits. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about substandard medicines from India, as several cough syrups have been flagged for contamination recently. In the past, Indian-made cough syrups were linked to child deaths in Gambia and Uzbekistan. The manufacturer and marketer of Cold Out have not assured WHO of the product's safety and quality. Indian authorities had previously taken action against some manufacturers.

As a single-arm study, the findings are descriptive and require controlled confirmation.
